Terms of Use

Public Poll is an independent civic platform where anyone can ask a question about public life and anyone with a verified account can vote on it. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Government of India, UIDAI, the Election Commission of India, or any state or local government, department or agency.

A poll here measures opinion among the people who took part in it. It does not create law, decide policy, determine guilt, or substitute for an election, a referendum, or any official process. Results describe our participants, not the country.

You must be 18 or over. One person, one account. Give accurate details, keep your access to your email or phone, and do not let anyone else use your account. Creating additional accounts to vote more than once is the one thing that breaks the platform outright, and it is grounds for removal without notice.

You keep ownership of what you write. By publishing on Public Poll you give us permission to display, translate and distribute it on the platform.

You may not publish content that:

• sexualises a minor, or endangers a child in any way
• threatens, incites or celebrates violence against anyone
• attacks people for their religion, caste, region, language, gender or sexuality
• accuses a named person or organisation of a crime without evidence
• asserts a contested fact as settled in order to lead the answer
• misrepresents an election, a court order, or an official government decision
• impersonates another person, an official, or a government body
• publishes someone else’s personal information
• is advertising, spam, or an attempt to manipulate results

Criticism of government, policy, officials and institutions is explicitly welcome. Disagreement is not moderated; advocacy of harm is.

Every question passes an automated check for wording, legal safety and harm before it is published. The check is not perfect, so every published question and every comment carries a report control that anyone can use, including people who are not signed in. Reports naming a child-safety concern go to the front of the queue.

We may remove content, refuse to publish it, or suspend an account when these rules are broken. Where content suggests a child is at risk we preserve what we hold and refer it to the appropriate authorities.

Published questions carry AI-generated context: a summary, arguments on each side, possible impacts, and the constitutional articles or laws the question touches. This is generated automatically. It can be incomplete or wrong, and it is not legal advice.

Where a question touches law or government information, the card links to the government’s own published source. Read the source, not our summary of it.

A vote is recorded separately from your account and cannot be traced back to you. That is the point, and it has a consequence: a vote cannot be changed or withdrawn once cast, and deleting your account does not remove it from the totals.

Results are reported in aggregate by ward, profession and age band. We do not publish how any individual voted, and we cannot reconstruct it.

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change or withdraw features. Where the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you have paid us, which for a free platform is nothing.

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. Sections that by their nature should survive the end of your account do so.

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
